I love the concept of learning and unlearning. As you understand each layer, you uncover a new one. What you thought was true falls away to reveal a new truth, which falls away to reveal something new. Thanks for sharing this Cyndi!
The idea of a stable base is interesting as it flows out to all aspects of life. When I taught writing one of my main themes was the sentence. I wanted the students to write clean clear sentences. Someone always pointed out to Hemingway’s use of the fragment in his writing and I I pointed out that he was considered the master of the sentence and when they wrote with some mastery, they, too, could make use of a thoughtful fragment. In meditation, the stable base allows you to see the habits of the mind and these are certainly boring, at least to me. The stillness afforded with a stable base helps clarity and strength prosper. In a world shouting drama and trauma and despair, a stable base rights the ship as it sails forth.
I appreciate you and am grateful to you for teaching me.
So well said. Your long and dedicated practice of meditation has revealed and clarified so much and your love of language helps you articulate so beautifully.
There were so many sections which caught my attention and made me pause, and re-read, & motivated me to grab my cushion before I could do anything else.
And your final comment was superb, "How long does it take to become a meditator? 5 minutes to learn & the rest of your life to live it", WOW!!!!
Thank you, as always, for sharing your gifts with us-
So beautifully articulated. Now, to let go of the struggle and internalize your insights 🙏🕉️
Yes, living into one’s own wisdom…that’s the practice of life!
